Online Bank Of America Chat
I deposited a check yesterday at my bank and I noticed online today that it wasn’t listed under pending transactoins as newly deposited checks usually are. Concerned, I started up an online support chat to inquire. The following conversation ensued:
Reed Kabel: Hello! Thank you for being a valued Bank of America customer! My name is Reed. I will be delighted to assist you with your personal accounts today.
Reed Kabel: May I please have your complete name as it appears on your statement?
You: Steven Jacobs
Reed Kabel: Steven, a warm welcome to you. How may I help you today?
You: Hi, I deposited a check for $4,000 yesterday and I don’t see it under either available or pending transactions, is everything ok?
Reed Kabel: Steven, I will be glad to check that for you. Let me have a look into your account.
Reed Kabel: Steven, to check that, could you please provide me the last four digit of the account you are referring to?
You: XXXX
Reed Kabel: Thank you for the information.
Reed Kabel: Steven, sometimes, it takes up to three business days to clear the check.
You: wouldn’t i still see it under pending transactions?
Reed Kabel: Once it will be posted then you will be able to see.
You: ok, I guess I’ll check back if I don’t see it in a few days then, I thought checks always go in pending transactions
Reed Kabel: However, if you need to know the status immediately then I suggest you to visit the same banking center.
You: ok thank you
Reed Kabel: You are absolutely right!
You: wait
You: if i’m right then why don’t i see it?
Reed Kabel: It shows under the pending transaction however when it gets posted.
You: ok
Reed Kabel: Let it be posted.
You: thanks
Reed Kabel: Pleasure is all mine to assist you today.
Reed Kabel: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
You: no, thank you
Reed Kabel: Pleasure is all mine to assist you today.
Reed Kabel: [Pleasure is all mine, as it is always nice to serve a great customer like you.
Reed Kabel: Do take care of yourself!! God bless you!!
Reed Kabel: Have a wonderful time ahead!!
Reed Kabel: We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Bank of America and our Text Chat service. I hope you have a wonderful time ahead!
Now the main thing I noticed, as you may have also is how ridiculously chipper the associate was. I wonder if they teach them to talk this way or if the individuals just do it to amuse themselves. I would much prefer they talk like a real person as it’s hard to believe anything they say when the talk like a robot on an extra strength dose of Prozac. I feel like online chat support in all industries is sort of like this, always over-gracious and under-helpful.

seems standard. they always take a while between chats. like they are talking to 10 people at the same time. it’s sort of annoying. comcast customer chat is the same way. i’d rather just talk to them on the phone even though that’s also terrible.

I surprised anyone would be able to say God bless you in a support chat. I would think anything religious would be verbotten.

Just to add to the bad chat experience, once I was at work and inquired with my cable company as to the monthly cost of an extra digital tv box, he wanted a security code that was on my bill, that was at home so I didn’t have it. He wouldn’t tell me the cost, like I was some rogue impostor, even thought it was just a pricing question.

It was a tremendous blog, as always. Thank you for the opportunity to read this blog of all blogs, what a pleasure!
All seriousness, I think they are automated responses. In saying that, it is still WAYYYYYYYYY overboard!
Take care, hope the check cleared!

“Reed Kabel: It shows under the pending transaction however when it gets posted.”
That’s completely bogus. Sounds like BOA is intentionally holding off from posting deposits to increase the float. Posting is an automated process. How can it take three days? It should be posted upon receipt. And agree with your point that this almost sounds like automated nonsense (scripted replies) with a real human interspersing just a few sentences. Here is a link to a place to log complaints about BOA:
